What are annual exams?
Annual exams for women at Westlake Women’s Health Specialists include the requisite medical evaluations and treatments that keep you in good health. What should I expect during an annual exam?
Friendly staff members greet you when you arrive at Westlake Women’s Health Specialists. A provider checks your temperature, weight, blood pressure, and other vital signs before Dr. Mandelman completes the following:
Medical history review
Dr. Mandelman personally reviews your medical history, including the medications you take, past diagnoses and surgeries, allergies, and your family history of disease.
She takes a complete gynecological and obstetrical history, to best see what is needed and how to proceed.
Breast exam
During a breast exam, Dr. Mandelman can evaluate your breasts for signs of cancer. She may order a mammogram if you’re due for one or if you notice new or unusual changes in your breast tissue.
Pelvic exam
During a pelvic exam, Dr. Mandelman evaluates your cervix and other reproductive organs. She may perform a Pap smear by taking a tissue sample to screen for signs of cervical cancer and complete human papillomavirus (HPV) screening if indicated.
Diagnostic testing
Depending on your health and risk factors, Dr. Mandelman might recommend you undergo certain diagnostic tests. Examples include urine tests, blood tests, STD testing, heart function tests, or bone density screenings.
Treatment
If you have a women’s health condition requiring treatment, Dr. Mandelman may suggest taking medications or dietary supplements, making lifestyle changes, or undergoing diagnostic tests or minor surgical procedures. She also offers contraception (birth control) and immunizations as needed.
